In focus

High pressure keeps the rain away.
The morning dew from nights still long
relieves the thirst of those so small
while roots search deeper of those tall.

The afternoons are warm a time,
enough to tempt some to repair
while lightly dressed outside to be
the first to show an arm or knee.

I watch the busyness around
as Nature stirs something inside.
A force that surges, needs to meet,
in all that hearken to the beat.

Demands of life are few it seems
when future dreams no longer haunt;
all energy is focussed clear
upon each task, no doubt or fear.

Into the light

Confusion reigned where certainty once ruled
But now man’s world, of which I’m still a part,
Unwittingly has cast me on a path
Directed by the compass in my heart

A clarity grows with each passing day
As truths and lies of old seen in new light
Merge and disperse to leave no doubts or fears
But revelations born of new insight

I see beyond the walls that culture builds
And ties break that still bind to words grown cold
I breathe a freshness that all overwhelms
When Nature wills her true face to unfold

Ice sculpture

Air surges freezing from the east
Its chill enhanced by raging wind
Still powdered white these leaves, not those
And feeling pinched are fingers, toes
Bare branches wild thrash toe and fro
Of those that sleep but somehow know
That winter has us in its grip
Allowing not a drop to drip

‘Now wrap up warm,’ I hear her say
‘Before you go outside to play.’
In far off days of carefree joy
When Nature watched a little boy
While slipping, sliding, compressed white
Snow crystals from gloved hands took flight
And he of coal eyes, mouth and nose
Stood somewhere near in easy pose

I look into the cold blue sky
With sculpted smile of times gone by

Bondage

A product of culture
Forged on the line
Honed by the voices
Symbols define
Lost in the daydreams
Those of the night
Phantoms beguiling
Clouding the sight

Views of eternity
Rise from somewhere
Calming the cold fears
Life’s wear and tear
But no escaping
Binds of the past
First breath of freedom
Would be my last

The peace one is seeking is already inside, in the harmonious functioning of the body

A light that shines so very bright
that turns to day the darkest night
burns deep inside what I call mine;
no thought has it to tow the line.

It seems somehow I can connect
with one not wayward or correct,
but driven onward to survive,
to reproduce and stay alive.

How is it that things go astray?
What emptiness is there at play
that draws me to wish and take stock,
to strike out and to run amok;

to rein in one that was born free,
to halt the gallop, blind to see?
Its movement leaves me far behind
midst cold illusions, man defined.

Psychological dependence sows only decaying seeds of progress

Disturbing developments
Deluge of thoughts
Immobilize
Efforts
To formulate
Regulate

Forces
Bedded in fear
And hope
Rear up
Stifling
Progress

Prophesy

This Christmas came and then it went
With lots of money being spent
According to the tabloid press
That enjoys such things to express

Now down we go to a New Year
The days slide by in second gear
As hopes and fears form in the minds
Of all who wish to draw the blinds

Perhaps a Mayan light will shine
Upon some undiscovered shrine
And throw man to the wolves of kind
That then devour his feckless mind

My days unnumbered, light to dark
No hands of clock could set a mark
With eyes wide to the wonders there
No thoughts of time could me ensnare

Horizons still within mists lay
No future urged me to obey
My world was small and undefined
Without rigidity of mind

No love’s demands me to cement
But with the knowledge instinct lent
The care of a protecting arm
Unnoticed, kept me safe from harm

I’m numbed by the scope of betrayal
The insidious patience of those
Who plan our lives to their advantage
With hearts that so long ago froze

If I could of myself avail
The hope that it might just be a dream
That I may awaken each moment
And find my fears flowing down stream

I feel if mankind now should fail
To at last conquer selfish ideals
The past might deliver a future
That really to no one appeals

Crossroads

Will they be there at the end
Those who once called me a friend
And my family, as I remember them?
Will they also be there too
Ones I wronged all shouting boo
Or allowed in others ways me to condemn?

I imagine them all there
At those gates above the stair
In that terminus where one goes up or down
Where forgiveness might be found
Or damnation underground
When those highly thought of judges go to town

Cloudscape

My friends the clouds go drifting by
So unassuming, low and high
I wish that I could float with them
Above the din of man’s mayhem

Seems I’m spreading good vibrations
Feelings sour are turning sweet
It’s as if I’m some conductor
In tune with an ancient beat

Nature favours with its blessing
Let’s me join with life around
In a wondrous celebration
Freely shared, not duty bound

Thought can no more find direction
In that world so empty now
Of reflections from the mirror
Losing form, I know not how

Words are hollow, void of meaning
Changing shape then symbols fly
As a voice sings soft but clearly
In a tongue of days gone by

Medieval

Carefree I of mad intent
Crossing fingers, heaven sent
Fleeing from hot breath of souls
Changing ways and digging holes
Cartwheels turning creaking down
Muddied tracks to one such town
Fresh the air that breathes inside
Filling spaces long denied
Creatures watch with whispers wild
Calling to this lonely child
Sun sinks now behind the eyes
Into calm and emptied skies
Carefree I of mad intent
Crossing fingers, heaven sent

The title is taken from the wonderful novel of the same name by the late Arthur C. Clarke

I’m racing now a light beam to the stars
Just passing Phobos and its planet Mars
No diamond sprinkled darkness lies ahead
For one whose corporality is shed

Free spirits have no conflicts that divide
No phantom shell exists where fears can hide
Released now that which long in fetters lay
Condemned to never seeing light of day

A wispiness constrained by will alone
A field of energy to mystery thrown
Among the patterns drawing it away
The living threads that guide it on its way

On Solar Two they wait who went before
The first to cross the ocean to that shore
I sense their joy that keeps me company
While I speed on in that infinity

Viruses and malware
The scourge of Internet
With adverts, propaganda
A cocktail of regret

Let’s add those predatory
Who seek just to cause ill
A mix that’s most disturbing
No more the same old thrill

When once, inflamed, unbridled,
One reached out to explore
Beyond the old horizons
New worlds of good rapport

With power and greed usurping
One’s freedom to express
The hope is in raised voices
Against those who’d oppress

What to make of threats that glower
behind the masks of those in power.
Should enmity like autumn leaves
not fall when truth no more deceives?

What to make of freedoms ebb
within the walls of World Wide Web.
Should shrieks of fools slam tight the door
to honest query from the floor?

What to make of those who blind
the eyes of youth, so unconfined,
to aid the past limp on to be
a future of hypocrisy.

A failing president it seems
Is dangerous to great extremes
As those behind bewitched by power
Plot ways to sweeten what’s grown sour
They must create events, of course
That urge a rapid show of force
Attacks upon the native soil
That guarantee the blood will boil
In those unpleasantly impressed
Are rated highly if not best

A danger thwarted overseas
That could have brought all to their knees
Is with a media loyal and true
Sold as a worthwhile thing to do
And loss of life so far away
Can these days people hardly sway
Who educated by TV
See violence a necessity
To keep them safe from ill intent
Of those who hate through discontent

One world, one government, just one
To rule when power and greed have won
That will at last bring peace and rest
To those who then will be oppressed
While freedom’s champions must hide
As outcasts others will deride
And persecute if daring to
Express a wayward point of view
It sounds familiar – a cliché
That’s being born, now, here, today

Whom and what to believe

Two towers and then a building fall
Events that shock and most appal
Ten years of doubts and thoughts that chill
The plaintive cries unanswered still

A world divided, faith revealed
As hatred deep no more concealed,
By those it seems with much to gain
From unrest, hardship, death and pain

An age of terror born of fear
Where freedom ebbs more year by year
The fight against the final foe
Unbeatable — most apropos

They walk around me everywhere
With mobile telephones, to stare
Sometimes I turn and think that they
Are casting words perhaps my way

To be in reach of those who care
And many who an ear will snare
One’s privacy is up for sale
To silken voices that prevail

Of course, it is a wondrous thing
A thousand miles away to cling
To feel so close to loved ones dear
Reducing loneliness and fear

But then one’s almost duty bound
To keep in touch wherever found
All news of any worth to tell
Those waiting to hear all is well

The devil in me dares to say
Let’s all switch off, right now, today
Well yes, tomorrow would be fine
I hear a jingle now from mine

Options in paradise
To win or lose
Conquer or be a slave
Some get to choose

Living in harmony
With Nature too
Seems to be something that
Humans can’t do

Where does the problem lie?
What rules our lives?
That born of raging fear
Ever survives

Thought is the enemy
Unseen by most
Totalitarian
Unthankful host

Over 200 African leaders and intellectuals released a letter in Johannesburg, South Africa, stressing the “misuse of the United Nations Security Council to engage in militarized diplomacy to effect regime change in Libya”, as well as the “marginalization of the African Union”.
Quote from Asia Times – The Roving Eye

Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.
Thomas Jefferson

Robbery with violence
No crime for some, I see
Lands raped and then exploited
To set their people free

Poverty and suffering
Necessities of war
To further the ambitions
Of those who know the score

Mass indoctrination
A cul-de-sac of hope
A playground for all ages
For each a length of rope

Hard times round the corner
Designed by misused power
A world of devastation
To crown man’s darkest hour
