Time is marked by punctuation
Memorable days of yore
Those anniversaries so special
Milestones at the very core.
Full stops, commas, semi colons
Hesitations on the way
Things done, to do, some worth remembering
Pass most claiming but a day.
Colons lead to explanations
Deeper thoughts may bring the tears
Of joy or sadness on occasion.
Exclamations jolt our fears.
Questions that remain unanswered
Underlined, italicized
Will catch the eye when turning pages
Wishes, dreams, unrealised
Dashes, interludes embracing—
Anecdotes may bring a smile—
Dispersed within the living sentence
Hold attention for a while.
Quotes to capture revelations,
Inspiration from within
Or wisdom gained, still heard in whispers
Echoing beneath the skin.
Pause to catch the breath of learning,
Or to bring one close to stay
A piece, from memories still yearning
Not to be just cast away.
“Time is marked by punctuation…”
I really like this idea, Jan. I’ve never seen the passage of time explained quite this way. Very creative and inspired. A very nice piece of writing.
Thanks. I’ve been a bit preoccupied with grammar lately and punctuation remains a particular headache 🙂
An inspired piece on this most confounding of subjects, Jan 🙂
Thanks bb 🙂
