Santa Claus lives in the frozen north it’s told since days of old
He sleighs across the heavens and he never catches cold
His reindeers have the strangest names and one a bright red nose
He likes it when there’s not much wind and when it freshly snows.
He’s a portly jolly person who wears red clothes trimmed with white
With hat and bushy beard of grey he is a wondrous sight
A broad belt strapped around his waist helps keep his trousers high
And large boots keep his feet warm when he travels through the sky.
He’s very fond of children and as Christmas time gets near
You’ll find him with one on his knee as he does every year
He’ll want to know if they’ve been good and when they all say yes
He’ll find out what they wish the most and note down their address.
And in the frozen north the elves have finished all the toys
And now they’re packed as gifts for all the little girls and boys
The reindeer fed and watered are now harnessed to the sleigh
When Santa comes and all is well they’ll soon be on their way.
The snow is falling lightly as old Santa’s sleigh draws near
And alighting on a rooftop he climbs out without a fear
The sack of toys upon his back he seeks a way inside
And climbs down in a chimney pot although it isn’t wide.
Quite soon and with a cheery smile he comes back into view
And climbing back inside the sleigh prepares to leave anew
The sack still bulging up behind he gently tugs the reins
And as they shoot into the night a shower of stars remains.
Not every child receives a gift or knows of love and care
They live in every country and you’ll find them everywhere
I hope that this small verse might help to bring a little joy
And light into the world of some sad little girl or boy.
